Visit Florida Racing Returns to Road America

0106

DRIVING AT ROAD AMERICA: Ryan Dalziel and Marc Goossens will drive the No. 90 Visit Florida Racing Corvette Daytona Prototype.

ROAD AMERICA: Round 8 of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship held at one of the most historic road courses on the 2016 calendar. At 4 miles in length, it’s the longest track that IMSA visits.

2016 CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS – VISIT FLORIDA RACING: 4th with 197 points after 7 of 10 rounds complete.

TEAM HISTORY AT ROAD AMERICA: Visit Florida Racing has made five starts at Road America since 2011. The best finish by the team was in 2014 when Richard Westbrook and Michael Valiante took a fourth place result. Last year, that same driver pairing finished fifth in the Visit Florida Racing Corvette DP.

A LOOK BACK AT CTMP: Visit Florida Racing came up just short of a podium finish in the Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park when the team and its drivers Marc Goossens and Ryan Dalziel combined for a fourth place finish. After leading mid-way through the race, a gamble on strategy didn’t pay off for the No. 90 Visit Florida Racing Corvette Daytona Prototype as the squad targeted victory at the Canadian road course. On the final pit stop of the race, the three front-running Daytona Prototypes took just two tires, while the No. 90 took on all four, with Visit Florida Racing hoping for a late-race yellow that would see the four fresh Continental Tires pay dividends. Unfortunately, that yellow didn’t come until the final lap of the race, which ended under the caution.

CONGRATULATIONS TO RYAN DALZIEL: Ryan Dalziel placed third two weeks ago in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s 6 Hours of Nürburgring. In addition to his full-time driver duties at Visit Florida Racing, Dalziel also races full time in the LMP2 category for ESM in WEC competition.

TEAM OWNER TROY’S TAKE: “We had a really good car at Road America last year, but we made a bad strategy call there and fell back in traffic and couldn’t get back up to the front. I’m excited to get back to Road America this year. Our car has proven to be fast, it’s just about getting the right timing. Nobody is going to give you any of these races so you have to be up toward the front and try to get the result when you can. We’re back up where we need to be. And we’ve been there all year, we’ve just had some bad luck and it hasn’t shown in our points. But we’ll just keep racing and going for wins from here on out.”

DRIVER QUOTEBOARD:
Ryan Dalziel: “Road America is one of the best tracks in the world. I’ve always had good results there and it’s a place I always enjoy going. I’m a big fan of the town and the fans. I like the funnel fries in the concession stands, and the bratwursts. I think I could do the whole race week on just funnel fries. And the dipped corn on the cob. It’s just pure dripping butter, it’s so good.”

Marc Goossens: “I won in the Viper there so Road America is a place that I have fond memories of. This will be my first time at Road America driving a prototype. I can’t wait to go flat through the kink. I’m looking forward to it. It’s a very European track – it’s very much like a lot of the tracks over in Europe. I like Road America, and I like Siebkins too!”
