Tequila Patrón ESM Runs First Laps in Honda Coupe

1215Riviera Beach, Fla., Dec. 14, 2014 – Tequila Patrón ESM attacked the 2015 sports car racing season today by running the all-new Honda Performance Development ARX-04b Honda prototype coupe for the first time. Tequila Patrón ESM principal Scott Sharp was first inside the enclosed cockpit racing machine.

“This HPD coupe is very exciting for us, there has been so much anticipation building up to our first laps,” said Sharp. “Huge thanks to the entire Tequila Patrón ESM team, HPD and Wirth for their efforts in getting the coupe delivered, built and on-track today.  Runner-up Finish for ESM Patrón at Shanghai

On Sunday afternoon in China, the No. 30 Tequila Patrón Honda Performance Development ARX-03b (HPD) team of Scott Sharp, Ryan Dalziel and Ricardo Gonzalez finished second in the FIA WEC 6 Hours of Shanghai.

In its two FIA WEC races, ESM earned two podium finishes. In September, Sharp, Dalziel and Ed Brown finished third at the FIA WEC race at Austin, Texas’ Circuit of The Americas. The FIA WEC 6 Hours of Shanghai marked ESM’s final race in the HPD ARX-03b prototypes. In May, ESM purchased two HPD ARX-04b coupe prototypes to be used in 2015.

ESM Patrón Qualifies Fifth and Sixth at Shanghai

In February 2013, the Tequila Patrón-sponsored ESM entered two Le Mans style-prototype racing machines (LMP2) for the final season of what was the American Le Mans Series (ALMS), en route to a runner-up position in the championship standings.

The Florida-based team has entered both its Tequila Patrón-sponsored Honda Performance Development ARX-03b (HPD) prototypes in the LMP2 class for the Nov. 2 race at China’s Shanghai International Circuit. In order to prepare both Tequila Patrón-sponsored HPDs to meet FIA WEC regulations, Extreme Speed Motorsports will not compete in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship’s season finale – Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta in October.

Dalziel’s best lap was 1:56.388.

Pole Position for ESM Patrón at Road America

Elkhart Lake, Wisc., - Aug. 9, 2014 – Extreme Speed Motorsports (ESM) earned its second consecutive pole position in TUDOR United SportsCar Championship series today. Ryan Dalziel, co-driver of the No. 1 Tequila Patrón Honda Performance Development ARX-03b (HPD), saved the best lap for last at Road America. With seconds to spare in the 15-minute session, the Scotsman vaulted to the top of the charts with a lap of 1:55.166 (126.537 mph), nearly eight-tenths quicker than the second-place qualifier.

This marks the third pole position from ESM in 2014: Johannes van Overbeek earned the pole during the May race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. In the last round at Indianapolis, it was an all-ESM, all-Tequila Patrón front row with Dalziel starting first and van Overbeek second.

STUART, Fla. – Extreme Speed Motorsports (ESM) raced to podium finishes at the 2012 and 2013 American Le Mans Series races held at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. This year, the team looks to conquer The Kink and ride The Carousel all the way to the podium during Sunday’s Continental Tire Road Race Showcase, the ninth round of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.

Road America, situated halfway between Milwaukee and Green Bay, is the longest circuit on the TUDOR Championship calendar. The 4.048-mile, 14-turn permanent road course is a favorite of race car drivers, teams and road racing fans alike. One year ago, the ALMS and GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series teams shared the paddock. This year the teams will share both the paddock and the race circuit vying for the title of event champion in the first-year unified championship.

EFFORT Sweeps Mid-Ohio

Mid-Ohio:  EFFORT Racing welcomed to the team, Ryan Dalziel for the first time and back to the Pirelli World Challenge.  With teamwork and precision set-up of the cars by the crew, testing and Qualifying proved strong for both Ryan and Michael Mills.

Race 1 was very good for EFFORT with Michael in the battle with Albert von Thurn und Taxis for the lead in GT-A.  Michael made a move before the rain stopped the race, to take the win in GT-A.  Ryan quickly moved to second and was holding on, creating a gap between him and third- place Johnny O Connell.  Ryan and Mike Skeen, in the Audi R8, were in the battle for first until right before the race was called due to the heavy rain. Because of the timing of Mike Skeen’s decision to put on rain tires, and the timing of the red flag coming out, this ultimately gave Ryan the win.

Fifth and Seventh Place Finishes for ESM Patrón in Indy Debut

Brickyard Grand PrixINDIANAPOLIS – Following a promising start to the weekend as the two fastest cars in opening practice and sweeping the front row in qualifying, Extreme Speed Motorsports’ (ESM) Brickyard Grand Prix proved to be challenging. With less than 10 laps to go, both Tequila Patrón-sponsored Honda Performance Development ARX-03b (HPD) pitted for a splash of fuel to reach the scheduled race distance. In the end, the ESM machines finished fifth and seventh.

In its Indianapolis Motor Speedway debut, ESM earned its first front row sweep in TUDOR United SportsCar Championship competition, appropriately on National Patrón Tequila Day. The team was confident it had exorcised the mechanical and electrical gremlins that arose in the two previous rounds of the TUDOR Championship. The front row start was a step in the right direction.

Scott Sharp, ESM owner/driver, has 14 Indianapolis 500 starts on his résumé including a pole position in 2001 and five top-10 finishes. In his last four appearances (2005-2007, 2009), Sharp ran a Honda-powered machine. The 2007 season was the first time Sharp drove a Tequila Patrón-sponsored Honda race car.

Following second- and fourth-place qualifying efforts on a track that showed some favoritism to the Tequila Patrón prototype machines, ESM’s day came to an abrupt end following electrical and exhaust system issues in the two-hour, 45-minute race.

Both the No. 1 and No. 2 Tequila Patrón Honda Performance Development ARX-03b (HPD) racing machines were unable to finish the race but ranked seventh and eighth on the unofficial scoring sheets in the sixth round of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.

After six hours of hard TUDOR United SportsCar Championship racing, the ESM team finished in 10th and 11th places.

ESM heads into the sixth round of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship race – the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen – with confidence following a mid-May test session at the New York track.

Known as one of the premier permanent road courses in North America, Watkins Glen is an 11-turn, 3.37-mile road course. This event marks the return of an endurance event in the TUDOR Championship. The last three rounds of competition featured 100-minute sprint events. ESM is looking forward to returning to a six-hour race.

DETROIT, Mich. – Extreme Speed Motorsports (ESM) will start on the front row Saturday for the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic presented by the Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers. Ryan Dalziel in the No. 1 Tequila Patrón Honda Performance Development ARX-03b (HPD) clocked a lap time of 1:25.029 (99.495 mph) just moments before the end of Friday’s qualifying. It looked as if ESM was about to score its second consecutive pole position in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. Unfortunately, another race car ousted Dalziel and the Tequila Patrón team by just 0.018 seconds.
 
The No. 1 Tequila Patrón team of Dalziel and Scott Sharp will start second, the outside pole, for Saturday afternoon’s race. After two practice sessions, the No. 1 Tequila Patrón HPD made the right adjustments to optimize its qualifying performance. Sharp will start the race for the No. 1 machine and Dalziel will drive to the checkered flag in the 100-minute race.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Honda Performance Development today announced the sale of two new HPD ARX-04b Honda coupes to Extreme Speed Motorsports for an ambitious 2015 racing program that may include the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The ARX-04b is fully compliant with the latest ACO LMP2 regulations, and exceeds the safety standards of the new enclosed-cockpit configuration.  The new design is eligible for competition in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, FIA World Endurance Championship, European Le Mans Series and Asian Le Mans Series.

ESM Patrón Targeting Win at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

The last time ESM raced on a permanent road course, both Tequila Patrón-sponsored Honda Performance Development ARX-03b prototypes led laps at Sebring. Channeling that race performance, ESM looks to improve its finish by one position and leave California with a win at the two-hour Grand Prix of Monterey, the fourth race in the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.
 
All four ESM drivers have different reasons for Mazda Raceway being one of their favorite tracks. Oakland, Calif., native Johannes van Overbeek calls Laguna his home track. In October 2009, Scott Sharp and then co-driver David Brabham clinched the ALMS P1 championship win.  In a two-fold announcement that same weekend, Sharp revealed the formation of Extreme Speed Motorsports for the 2010 season and its first driver – Ed Brown. The circuit is also the site of Ryan Dalziel’s first sports car win.

Long Beach, Calif. – Extreme Speed Motorsports (ESM) took to the streets today in preparation of 100 minutes of wheel-to-wheel combat through the narrow, bumpy streets and unforgiving walls of the 1.968-mile, 11-turn Long Beach layout that plays host to the Tequila Patrón Sports Car Showcase, round three of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.
 
During Friday’s qualifying session Ryan Dalziel, co-driver of the No. 1 Tequila Patrón Honda Performance Development ARX-03b (HPD), was running strong laps at the start of the 15-minute qualifying session. On his fifth lap, the No. 1 machine lost drive and stopped on course which drew the red flag. Dalziel was towed back to the where the team determined a transmission component failure prevented Dalziel from completing the session. Per the IMSA rulebook, the No. 1 team lost its fastest lap for causing a red flag during qualifying, which made the car’s official qualifying lap a 1:17.833 (91.026 mph).

The proud Scot — who is originally from Airdrie in Lanarkshire but now lives in Windermere, Florida  — was desperate to turn the iconic Sebring track into a home from home in the Patron Tequila-backed ESM Honda.

Scott Sharp, Ryan Dalziel and David Brabham, co-drivers of the No. 1 Tequila Patrón Honda Performance Development ARX-03b (HPD), finished second.

ESM Patrón Leads Sebring at Six Hour Mark

0325Dalziel leads in No. 1 HPD; Pagenaud runs fifth in No. 2 HPD

SEBRING, Fla. – Extreme Speed Motorsports’ Ryan Dalziel, in the No. 1 Tequila Patrón HPD, leads the 62nd Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida at the halfway point.  Dalziel took the race lead with 127 laps completed, 12 minutes shy of halfway.

Dalziel was able to reach the race lead following solid double stints by co-drivers Scott Sharp and David Brabham.  Sharp started the race and ran in the top-five for the majority of his two-hour stint.  A pit stop and several caution flags dropped Sharp in the field, but he was able to rebound before a scheduled driver change to Brabham. During his stint Brabham wheeled the Tequila Patrón-sponsored Honda Performance Development ARX-03b (HPD) to third place in class.

Top-10 Qualifying Effort for ESM Patrón at Sebring

SEBRING, Fla. –  The Extreme Speed Motorsports (ESM) team continued on its trek to a home track victory at Sebring International Raceway today during qualifying for the 62nd Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida.  As the second race on the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship schedule and second round of the Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup (NAEC), ESM seeks its first team win of the season and valuable points in both the series championship as well as the NAEC.

The Stuart, Fla.-based team maximized on-track time and continually made improvements to the Tequila Patrón-sponsored Honda Performance Development ARX-03b race cars. A daunting 3.74-mile, 17-turn circuit requires the race cars to be engineered to maximum capacity.  The Sebring venue is notoriously brutal on machinery, but ESM has the wherewithal to ensure the race cars withstand the 12-hour event.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –  The new era of sports car racing began this weekend at the 52nd Annual Rolex 24 At Daytona, the inaugural race of the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and the first round of the four-race Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup (NAEC).

For 24 hours, Extreme Speed Motorsports (ESM) battled against some of the best racers from around the world.  At the end of the endurance race, the team finished seventh and 15th in the highly-competitive prototype class that was comprised of former American Le Mans Series (ALMS) P2s and former GRAND-AM Daytona Prototypes.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., – At the midpoint of the 52nd Annual Rolex 24 At Daytona, the Extreme Speed Motorsports (ESM) Honda Performance Development (HPD) ARX-03b race cars proved consistent and strong as Scott Sharp and Simon Pagenaud met the 12-hour mark of the season opening TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.

As the clock struck 2:10 a.m., the No. 1 Tequila Patrón machine was running 13th and the No. 2 Tequila Patrón was ninth in class.

Opening Hours of Rolex 24 Unkind to ESM Patrón Team

 THAW  335811d606fdDAYTONA BEACH, Fla., –  In the first quarter of the 52nd Rolex At Daytona, Extreme Speed Motorsports (ESM) experienced the traditional highs and lows of a twice-around-the-clock race.  At the six hour race mark, the No. 1 Tequila Patrón race car was 16th and the No. 2 Tequila Patrón machine was 14th in the prototype class.

All seven drivers completed their first stints in the race cars with mixed results.

Ryan Dalziel continues to support West of Scotland Kart Club

awardEndurance racing king Ryan Dalziel made it a very special 2014 for teenage Scottish kart star Tommy Leckie – by giving him an all-expenses trip to the Rolex 24 at Daytona, January 25-26, 2014.

The proud Scot – speed.com’s Sports Car driver of the year for 2012 – is keen to give something back to the karting scene where he started, and has made his West of Scotland Kart Club ambassadorial prize an annual award.

Tommy, 17, will follow the inaugural winner Ciaran Haggerty, who was inspired after his trip to Daytona, to make the jump to Formula Ford single-seater racing with the Scottish Motor Racing Club last year.
